Somebody please please please tell me if you know of any dual degree programs that offer a PhD and a MSN! This is my third time posting and I am getting no love man!!!!!

Specializes in Nursing Professional Development.

I don't understand what you mean by a "dual degree." That expression is usually meant to refer to a program that offers degrees in 2 different fields (e.g. nursing and something else). But I doubt that is what you mean.

Are you asking which schools offer a PhD? There are lots of them -- mostly at major univerisities. And I doubt there are any schools that offer a PhD without also offering a Master's program. It's a step-by-step process: first you get your Bachelor's, then your Master's, then your PhD. Even if you do it all as one continuous process at the same school, you go up the levels to the PhD.

So ... if that doesn't answer your question, you may need to explain a little more. Perhaps that is why no one is answering it.

I agree, I've never seen it any other way.

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.

I've heard of a few ambitious individuals skipping their Masters and going right for the Doctorate, but it requires special permission from the graduate school, and I don't think that's what the OP is asking about anyway.

actually one of my instructors did get her phd prior to getting her masters. and it is frowned upon to go back and get a lesser degree - but she did it to fill out her resume .....gotta give props to that!!

For example, my friend is in a program at USC where she will be getting her master's and her doctorate's degree in three years. This is a Physical Therapy program. I was wondering if there was a program like that for Nursing.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Not that I'm aware of - but that doesn't mean much. What about putting in "PhD nursing programs" into a search engine and narrowing it down from there?

Have you called your local nursing schools? Someone in the graduate studies office may be able to direct you.

Specializes in OB/Gyn, Post Partum, Antepartum.

HU Nurse,

I know that University of Pennsylvania has a dual MSN/PhD program.

Yale has a Doctorate in Nursing Science Program.

I am sure there are other programs in other parts of the country. Some are PhD some are Doctorate of Nursing Science Programs.

I hope this helps.
