Funny But Not Proud Clinical Moment

Nursing Students General Students

OK, I get ready to do my 1st IV flush (LPN student). I am in the pt.'s room w/ 4 other students & my instructor. After clamping the int line, I reach into my pocket (1 of 4) to get the "capped" syringe. Well, I first pulled out my cover-up stick, "That's not gonna do alot of good," I said. Then I pull out my eyeliner, "hehee." :uhoh21: THEN, I pull out my lipstick. :chair: At last, I pull out the syringe & my instructor looked like :uhoh3: . Well, I go to flush the IV & it squirts out the sides at the top. :crying2: WILL THIS EVER END???

In the end, my instructor got a new cap & I did the flush :balloons: . As bad as it seemed, my teacher laughed & said, "we can always give him a makeover." The thing is, I don't wear alot of makeup. It was real early when I left the house & wanted to put some on when I got to clinicals.

Just thought I'd share. justjenn

just thought I would remind you that your instructor said "flush the line" not make the patient look flushed! LOL Just kidding, sounds like you have a good instructor that can see the humor in things. Good luck with school, hope all goes well with you.

The other day I had to do something and needed a vial of morphine that I had previously dosed this same pt with. Well - reach in my pocket and yep - out comes a tampon! Yuck! It doesn't only happen to students! Tee hee hee!
