Finding it hard to find the motivation to study!

I usually always do this about mid-semester of every class I take. I'm a first year ASN student and taking the fundamentals right now. I'm doing pretty well so far. But lately, I've found it hard to sit down and study and when I do I feel like it takes forever because I can't keep focused. I don't have all the time in the world to devote to studying either, so when I get the chance I need to do it. I'm a mom and I also work part-time. I just get so burnt out on reading! Sometimes I feel maybe I should just focus on main concepts and not read every single thing. Maybe that would help me focus better while studying. I don't know. Any advice? How do you study?

If I would have read everything I was supposed to in school... I would've had to sit there 24 hrs a day. haha. I honestly didnt read all that much unless I didn't understand something in the notes. I would skim over the material sometimes or do the questions in the back of the chapters. Also, if you want to cut down on some of the reading.. get a review book. This is what I studied from most of the time... and I found it MUCH more useful than reading things I would forget 5 seconds after I got done. I would suggest saunders comprehensive nclex review.. it breaks it down into different sections and is great on explaining things! Good luck!

I understand. We have a Lab test over ALL practical applications we should know how to do by now Friday and I've studied twice so far. The nice part is we have an outline book for the course and can just study that. Also, it's hard to study for the lecture part because we often barely skim the sections, then the questions on the test have book answers in them that we don't cover. (I.e. which population is most likely to develop hearing problems? Missed that little 5 line box in the text. (Caucasians, BTW)). Somedays I just don't know how I keep on top of the studying....just find those times you can and go from there!

:yeahthat:

That's exactly what I did. I started out in nursing school doing all the reading, and by the middle of my first semester I realized that I was doing all reading and very little studying/retaining. Truthfully, I only read the book(s) on concepts that I really had trouble understanding. Other than that, I only skimmed over the parts that went along with our notes. I always performed well on tests.....graduating in December with a 3.6 GPA.

Hey Im The Same Way I Have 2 Children And My Bb Is Only7 Months I Just Finished Fundamentals What I Do Is When I Put My Kids To Sleep I Devote Atleast 1 Hour Every Night To Studying No Matter How Sleepy I Am I Never Read Everything I Outline I Never Cram For A Test. When Your Cramming Ur Not Totally Focused On Learning The Material Ur Focused On Passing The Test.this Is My 2nd Time In Nursing School And Ive Learned To Graduate Nursing School U Have To Sacrifice Alot Of Things Including Sleep.my Motivation Is When We Get Our Grades Back Good R Bad.one Thing I Will Also Suggest Study In Ur Car Before Or After Class U Will Be By Yourself With Less Distractions. Whatever Works For U Do It Because Medsurge Is No Joke. I Wish U Well In Scool And If U Ever Want To Talk Ill Be Here. Oh Also My Friend Got Aderall Prescribed To Him Because He Simply Could Not Focus Maybe U Should Talk To Your Dr To See If There Is Anything To Help U Focus
