Feeling guilty.

So I'm in my 3rd semester (med-surg) and I have been hit with a TON of studying. this stuff is pretty dense! I flew through peds/ob and fundamentals and all of a sudden I feel like I can't study enough for this stuff. We had our first test and I didn't do as well as I could of:( so here comes the second one in just a few days.

Anyways - I'm really contemplating quitting my part time job. I feel guilty for doing so tho :( not super sure why.

BUT - if I don't pass this class I'll be at the part time job longer then id like to be anyways...

So... I donno what to do!

Sorry about your issues. Like you as with most nursing students , you were doing great and then "med-surg happened". you can read my horror story about what I did after failing it twice with F's to come out of that hole with a C overall (I'll take that any day) or see if you can find usefull tips in the post below.

But in a nutshell, you cannot pass med-surg without reading. Some supplemental books also helped me out but you really gotta read. After that, find some questions and practice those questions to death , this will help reinforce what you read and help it stick. It will also help you get in the habit of figuring out those tricky med-surg questions. All of this is time consuming, now I don't work but I do got a family and kids...if you think the job has to go then it has to go. If your part-time job is the medical field like CNA or something like that, then approach the boss and just tell them you would like some time off to be more committed to studying and you can maybe no work the week of exams, or just cut your hours and up them after the test is over. I know some people in my class did that and the employer was very flexible. A non-medical employer might not like the news though, you will have to decide if to tell them or not.

I skimmed through that link and I am doing all of that. I LOVE the reviews and rationals series as reviews and "extra" it rocks. I don't think I REALLY studied for that first exam. I think I expected it to be like ob/peds, which was pretty much all signs and symptoms... And then wow - wake up call. What DOES the nurse do first for such and such?? Whoops didn't even soak it in :(

So - this time around I've made sure to look at that and KNOW it. Its stressful tho, I WANT to do better.

And I have a non-medical employer. A very well known employer that REQUIRES 20 hours/ 4 days a week now. They didn't when I started there (1st semester a year ago!) so yea :-/

Oh, and I do have a child and I am married. Too much on my plate with all this studying! I think it's time to let the job go. Maybe when summer comes around I can find something easy and fun to do if I find too much time between semesters since we have summers off!

Oh I see now, its the job...let the job go or cut your hours down if its a must. I'm married with 2 kids so I know. If this is what you want for your future sacrifices got to be made, just have a plan. When you get in the grove of things then get a job.

Well it's gone! Haha - I informed them today that I will be resigning from my job. Next test is tomorrow so. Review review review today!!!

Great job! I had to do the same thing- my old job ate away at my sanity trying to balance life and studying. Too much!!! I hope this works out better for you! :)
