Fall 08 NS Ages...

Nursing Students General Students

Published

So, I was just accepted into my college's nursing program and being on this site I have seen people of all ages. I was just wondering...what are the average ages of people getting into programs across the nation?

I'm 18 and I've been the youngest in every single one of my prereqs, so I'm assuming I'm one of the youngest in my program. I just want to get a feel for who I might be getting to work with...

Specializes in Cardiac.

you will probably be the youngest in your program. But that doesn't mean there won't be people your age there. I'm 19 and I start in less than a week with a friend i graduated with and another girl the same age. the rest 18-20 yrs olds I know are going for spring.

You will be will all ages that is pretty much for sure.

I guess it just depends on what school you go to. Typically, community colleges have an older crowd, where universities are more the fresh out of high school, young twenties bunch.

I will start in Jan '09 into a DE-MSN program. I am currently 33 but will turn 34 in October so I will be 34 when I start.

I am 22 and starting this fall and will only me 23 when I finish. I am a bit nervous about being on the younger side when I finish just b/c right now as a CNA I get "are you like 17" or "are you a volunteer?" lol Then when I tell them my are they are a bit surprised. I just dont want my patients to think I am too young to be their nurse lol. Good Luck!

I'll be starting NS this fall, too. I am 18 and definitely feel like the new kid on the block!

I will be starting NS in exactly 13 days and I am 33. I will be 34 in a couple of weeks. I am sure there will be a mixture of ages. I took my pre reqs with all ages from 17-67. I have orientation on the 22nd so we will see who all will be going through NS with me!

I say to everyone not to worry about age!! Its just a number! I have met "old" 18 year olds and I have met very "young" (read immature) 40 yr olds.

Good luck to you!!

Well, I'll be coming on board at 28 and jumping ship about 2 weeks before my 30th birthday. Don't worry about your age. Just do what you do and you'll be fine.

Specializes in Critical Care.

I am starting on Thursday and I am 26. I will graduate at 28 and hopefully be able to get a job and have my 1st child before I am 30!!

Specializes in Med Surg.

If I get into NS next fall, I'll be 32. The average age at the school I'm really interested in is 28.

Specializes in PICU; NICU.

I'm 23, I'll be 25 when I graduate. I'm one of the younger ones in my class, I go to a community college and they do generally have older crowds. I went to a university prior to this and there were a few more people around my age. So it all depends!

Specializes in none - hopeful student.

At my orientation this week, we were told the average age of students in our program was 30. I am 42, and did not feel at all out of place. I love having a diverse group of fellow students!
