congratulations! to everyone that is starting in january!
i'm so excited to meet everyone-please introduce yourself!
:groupwelcome:
We had orientation Monday, and shadowed a nurse Tuesday. Our first day with patients will be Monday. The hospital is very different from where we've been before though. The nurses are patient and kind and truly seem to care about the patients. The facility is pretty nice too (St. Paul)... I'm impressed so far - we'll see how it holds up :)
How about you?

If you are on 3-South...then you will work with some great PCTs and there are a few of us ECC 2nd semester students working that floor too. I am on 5-West/5-North. And yes, the RNs are very friendly in comparison to other places (ie., Presby Dallas - blah!!!!)
Be nice to PCTs - it is really hard work! Well, for me at least. I find that having 22 patients to keep track of is a bit extreme - call me crazy...but, um yea! I am getting over my hospital/patient inhibitions fast though, and learning too - so I think it's worth it for the moment.

I like 3N - we are doing basically the same rotation. I'm just worn out with the care plans. At some point they have to stop! How do you have 4 patients and do careplans on them all?????

Hello Everyone,
I have a general question. I have applied for El Centro Nursing for this coming Fall. We normally take a family vacation the first week in Sept. (Labor Day Week). This would be the 2nd week of school. Would it be horrible if I was out of town the 2nd week of nursing school. Would this fail me?
Thanks,
Billie
You have LOTS of skills lab the first part of the semester. Missing one of these counts as clincal time of which you can only miss 12 hours in an entire semester and still pass. I would not do it. First semester is hard enough without starting out that way. Take your family vacation early. Don't put yourself in that position right out of the gate. Also, your schedule will flip flop and change the first several weeks. When they say they own you for 4 semesters, they pretty well mean it. Especially 1st semseter.

I run very late to lecture ... as in, I don't ever make it there!
Sorry I missed you.
