Clinical Hours

I was wondering how many hours various programs have in clinicals. I feel like I haven't had enough hours. Only 6 weeks of Med-Surg in the entire program One week includes 2 days of 7 hours hands on with patients and 1 hour post confrence. Peds was only 4 DAYS. Do other programs get more hours than I do?

Nursing process 1 + 2 / 2 days w/ total 16 hours

GIGU is 2/ 12 hour shifts(summer class = 6 weeks

Pediatrics 12 hour shift once a week

and the same for Pediactrics, OB, Psych, Ortho/neuro, Cardio/Resp, trens 1, and trends 2

You guys get it easy-try 4 12 hour shifts this week, 3 12 hour shifts next week, 5 12 hour shifts the week after-repeat x3. Talk about tired!

I'm not entirely sure of the breakdown, but we get 4 blocks of 9 week sessions that are 40 hours per week. There are other blocks of time as well...but since I am not yet a student, I cant tell you much more!

Maybe you could ask for extra hours?

One thing i really like about my program is that we get an 'intersession' after all our courses are done. For years 2 and 3, we have classes from Sept til April, and then May is full time clinical. I think (not sure, i'm not there yet ... hehe) we get paired up w/ an RN who works in an area of our choice. Year 4 last sem is a whole semester of clinical ... Jan to April. Does everyone have that? (I'm in the BScN program in Ontario)

my clinical hours are

1st 90

2nd 180

3rd 120

4th 300

5th 240

total 930 (if I added correctly)
