Caught between two majors!

Hi everyone. I am really interested in becoming a nurse but I have always loved ceramics. I have taken ceramic classes for three years and it is my sanctuary (sp) when things get rough or I just want to relax. I am afraid I'll have to stop when I get further into my nursing classes because I won't have enough time for both. My family wants me to drop art because "I can't eat on it" but I love it. Please give me advice!!! ::cool:

Trust me Keely, the only thing that will keep you sane while taking nursing is something to do that you love to take your mind off of it. This is not to say it is a bad choice, I could not imagine a better experience, but you will see and experience things nobody should ever have to. And when you have a bad day (odds are the patient you feel bad for had a far worse day) You will need your art to keep it all in perspective. It will, at the very least, improve your vision of beauty in the world and in your art.

My advice, go for it! If it does not work out for you you will always have your art.

Let me know what you think.

Nursing will help you afford to do ceramics and also be a hobby to reduce stress. Don't give up such a wonderful hobby.

Hi Keely,

Sounds like you have found a really great and rewarding outlet. I agree with other posters that you should keep a ceramics class or two.

If you don't have time to take it as a class meeting regularly every week is it possible you could take one as Adult Ed. or through a Community Program? I know my local Community College offers evening non-credit classes like Cermics, Languages and other special interests. Could that be an option for you?

My outlet is Home Improvement projects. I am especially good at painting rooms too and since we bought our house a little over a year ago we have lots to do. It is something I really enjoy and I find that if I do it when I'm not in a good mood about work or class it really de-stresses me and makes me happy :)

Good Luck!

:kiss Thank you guys so much for your advice! I am currently enrolled in an intermediate ceramics class at the university and it is so nice to get some reassurance that I should stay with it. It will be a great outlet to destressing and creativity. Thanks again guys! (((:kiss )))

Ceramics- fun and relaxing.

I remember making a cheerleader years ago in Jr. high and it was a blast ! So many neat things to be made, very creative outlet.

Good Luck and have fun !:)
