YES!!! I grew up in the dallas area and moved to OKC recently for my husband's job. He's doing well and we aren't planning on leaving anytime soon, but I really want to go home and I know I could make more there to make up for the cost of living.

The only thing about working for an agency is that you have to have at least one year experience and you have little or no benefits. Not to mention that you usually don't stay in one place very long.

I did ask the one girl in my class who was agreeing with the teacher about the $40-60K for new nurses. She told me that she has a friend that is a supervisor at Deaconess and said that when she graduates she can work there for $25/hour. I told her that she needs to introduce me to her friend.

I know, we here so much about what nurses here get paid. I have a friend in my class that babysits for a nurse and she said she started at $45K year so I dont get it. But then we look at Mercys website and they only start at $15 an hour.

Ya there is good and bad about the agencies, I guess I would rather work for them after a year for $30 hr sans benifits than $15 plus benifits. I can always get my health insurance through my husbands work. My husband says though down at the OU Med Center they have posting for nurses all the time for $28 an hour, but they do have a very high turnover since the hospitals merged...maybe it will be better by the time we all graduate.

Thanks Cynthiann, I picked up an aplication for Summer Tuition fee waver, I think we both have a pretty good shot or receiving it. I wonder how long it takes till you find out if you got it or not? Ill be turning mine in the tuesday after spring break.

I just called OU Med center Nursing Recruitment and she said the starting pay for new nursing grads is $15.50 an hour

Imgonna call around some more, that seems to be about the average as well. The phone number to Deaconess is 604-4571, Ive been trying to call up there but no one has answered. If anyone else wants to try them go ahead.

Well, it looks like St. Anthony is among the leaders for new grad pay. I don't have the exact number but I know it's $16 something an hour. For those interested in intensive care, we have a critical care differential. I also receive a differential for national certification (CCRN).

At present we do take new grads in our CCU. We offer about 14 weeks of training. Orientation is with a nurse who has taken the preceptor course; that is you will be trained by someone who was asked to be a precepter, who wanted to do it and is paid a differential to do it-----not someone who was forced to do it and just feels dumped on.

Since I won't be getting a referral bonus from you guys for a while---anyone want to bet me about the new grad who thinks they are going to get $40-60K at Deaconess? I say maybe mid 30s maximum for base another 5-6K if night shift------so maybe very low 40's maximum if night shift. I like sucker bets and could always use the money. :)

Well, it wouldn't exactly be a gamble for me. lolol

Ok, seriously. Technically, she will get between $40-60K. She will also receive between $40-999K. But my point is, of course, that the range is rather wide and that he/she will actually receive a lot closer to the 40K than the 60K even with the differentials taken into account.

Now for every rule there is an exception. But that said, for acute care hospitals I can tell you that managers have practically no discretion as to what they can offer a new grad nurse. One exception that you might see is partial or full credit for years worked as an LPN before becoming an RN.

Managers have to work within guidelines established by the Human Resources Department and Administration. They also have budgets which they must meet if they want to remain as managers.

That is from the Nurse Recruiter from Integris who emailed me today. I called over at Deaconess and he said they do not start *any* new RN for any more than $16 an hour, normal base pay is $15.50 an hour. Looks like $15.50 is about average with $3 hour differential pay for nights and weekends almost everywhere I called. They were all very happy to talk to me about all this too!

From what all I have found out today I dont think she knows what she is talking about or lying. But who really ever knows.
