Hi All,
I started my nursing program yesterday! It is so overwhelming but all the teachers were very nice and I am very excited (and nervous).
My question is regarding shoes/sneakers. What is the difference between a good ol' fashion pair of athlethic sneakers vs. a "nursing shoe" such as Rockers by Cherokee?
I don't have a plain white pair of sneakers so I have to buy one or the other and am not sure if there are any benefits to having an actual nursing shoe.
Otherwise, I'll probably just buy a white pair of sketchers!
Thanks and Good Luck to Everyone this semester :)

i don't wear sneakers unless it is to walk for exercise or the pe classes i had to take.
we could wear any "nursing shoes" as long as they were not clogs.

I wear Nike walking shoes, they were much cheaper then nursing shoes like Nursemates that can be up to $80. Plus, they are comfy and they don't look geeky!

There was a long thread re: shoes some time ago. Do a search for it and you'll see quite a few opinions. Hope this helps!

I wear new balance and k-swiss. Both (got them on sale) were cheaper than nursing shoes, and are REALLY comfortable.

I wear Skechers and then have a pair of Avia as backup. I think any shoe that you like (as long is it's white) is fine. Most of the nurses where I work wear sneakers.

Thanks Everyone! That is what I was hoping. I will go shopping this weekend for some white sneakers and hopefully find some New Balance or Nike's on sale. :)

And...coming from the poor student perspective...I spray painted my athletic shoes white when I was in nursing school. Worked better than you'd think!

I *live* in my Energy Skechers, unless it's snowy and then I live in my Doc Martens. For clinicals I bought the Skechers 'Vitals' which are an all white slip-on athletic shoe. Personally I prefer lace-ups but the white Energy shoes I have on now have some little tiny red bits and the instructors were VERY clear that the shoes had to be ALL WHITE. So it's Energy for everyday home use and Vitals for clinicals.
I didn't think the Rockers were very comfortable. They made me feel like I was standing on the sides of my feet, sorta.
