I've always been attracted to people's behavior and attempted to understand why they behave as they do. I have a theory here:

A definition of melting pot is "a place where different peoples, styles, theories, etc. are mixed together" and that's why I believe General Nursing is a popular forum. It's a potpourri of nurses, spanning the entire spectrum of nurses and nursing.

What do you think?

Why do you come to the General Nursing forum?

Specializes in ER, Pre-Op, PACU.

I came to AN to initially get me through my new grad days, then I relied on it even more when I became frustrated with the safety events for patients and safety events for staff in the ER. (And it just figures I went into nursing when NO ONE in my family is in healthcare at all.....and have no clue what I am talking about).

I thought maybe my ER was just messed up but then found that apparently most ERs are ? and that what I blamed on initially new grad anxiety was no longer that years later as a preceptor and charge.....and was instead just the general ER mess. Then I left the ER and felt like a failure because I thought I wasn’t strong enough to stay in that environment.....until I saw how many other nurses on here left the ED because of the same situations, especially when life situations make the job even more stressful.

Now I am at a peaceful place in my nursing career in pre-op and PACU.....even though the ER PTSD remains. (And no I don’t regret my ER experience or my old team, but don’t miss anything else). Now I hang around to hopefully encourage new grads or whatever category of nurses I now fall in.....and no, there is still no one else in my family who is in healthcare - hence the reason for popping up on this site when I can ?
