Your first job

I'm interesting in hearing how some of you got your first job. I was looking around on the job boards and of course most places want at least one year experience. How did you begin? :)

I completely understand what you are going through. I can't find a job either filled out 30 or more apps only responses I'm getting are you do not have enough experience well where can I get that if no one is willing to give us the chance???

We also have a job shortage for new RN's in here. I ended up doing hospital volunteer work. It was burdensome to work for free but I know that if I were to get a job in the future (which is only available overseas) I needed experience. Some actually have it worse for they have to pay to volunteer. Thankfully, the hospital didn't charge anything. Thankfully I have supportive parents.

After almost a year when even jobs abroad are getting less, the government decided to increase the budget to allow their hospitals to hire nurses. It was primarily for overseas workers who got laid off but since the hospital I'm volunteering was small and unknown few former overseas workers applied. Ergo, there were many available slots and, we, the volunteers-for-so-long (almost a year!) got the remaining slots.

I guess it's about patience and a little bit of luck. Well maybe it was more than a little bit of luck that I feel guilty of not being contented with my job....I want to work in big hospital.... :p

Anyways, I vouching more for patience.

Volunteering may be a good and possible only way to get in. I'm not a RN yet, but I figured getting some tips now wouldn't hurt. I'm going to keep volunteering in mind.

I am also looking for a job as a LPN in NC. Everybody wants a minimum of 1 year experience. I am praying and trying to stay optimistic but it's financially hard. I wish at least I could have continued taking courses toward my RN. I worked as a CNA for 2 1/2 years and just needs a chance to prove myself. Good luck to you.
