Who evaluates the Head Nurses?
Staff nurses are closely evaluated by the HN but who evaluates the HN?

The last hospital I worked in we did evauls on our managers. I didn't think at the time it would amount to anything. Our HN stepped down after they were turned in which wasn't a good thing. She was a nice person, very sweet and as fair as she could be under the circumstances. The demands she placed upon us were sent down to her from "upper management/corp. It's tough to be in the middle b/c you'll never make everybody happy. Evauls for HN are generaly done by the next person up the line. Could be the administrator or even the CEO. Who ever that person reports to and is under. Many places I've worked, we did our own evauls too.

That's a really good questin ohbet, I wish I knew the answer! On my unit, I'm sure it's her immediate supervisor. Which really does us no good as the 2 of them, along with the director, are all thick as thieves.
Perhaps we could all have the benefit of having our good friends do our evals?
