what would you do?

i come up with a different career choice every week almost, last week it was a paralegal, the week before that it was an attorney, this week i want to become a nurse practioner...

if you could choose any path in nursing (dont let school hold you back) what would it be? what did you get excited about in nursing school? are you doing what you want to do now? do you have an enjoyable uncommon nursing job?

when i was in nursing school i wanted to become a women's services nurse practioner and provide prenatal care to those who wouldnt otherwise get it, then i realized i'd also like to get paid a little... now i am getting paid but feel like i would be happier somewhere else.... i want out of the hospital and off the night shift, but i dont want to lose the flexable scheduling and being off 4 days a week.... (doesnt everyone?)

an attorney, a medical equipment rep, a nurse practioner, a midwife, a nurse educator...

Specializes in Geriatric/LTC, Rehab, Home Hhealth.
OK, Don't laugh at me. I love the medical field and would love to become a doctor. I would go into medical school if I had it to do over again. I still may when all the kids are grown, who knows? I've looked into becoming a PA or NP, but I feel that others would see me as a second-rate doctor and not the qualified professional that I am. I guess it's similar to being an LPN and being treated like a second rate nurse!! I guess if I'm going to do all that work, I might as well go all the way and become a physician/surgeon. I love dermatology. Many people think it's just acne, but that's the farthest thing from the truth. We did melanoma surgeries, biopsies, cosmetic procedures, etc....Great experience!! Love it!!

Just the opposite Deb...I think its great youwant to go for Dr. My eyes popped out when I read your post b/c I could have wrote it myself...except for the dermatology part...I am thinking ER...lol. Good luck to you

The ER has always sounded exciting to me. You definitely get a wide variety of experience. You see just about everything ..... :uhoh3:

Good Luck To you!! :nurse:

Hmmm...guess I'm lucky...I love what I do...school nurse for special needs kids, and i teach instructional assistants how to take care of them...would like to have my masters and do some college level teaching, too (workin on BSN now)

I would love to teach history, specifically history as related to women. We have done some awsome things and have been written right out of a lot of history. I love a line from a movie that goes something like "we women have been bred to have extremely low expectations for hundreds of years." If I could get one or two females to appreciate the contributions women have made to the world and have a clearer understanding of how we need to empower ourselves, not expend all of our energy in support the male of the species, we could really change the face of the world.

True! Back in the early ninties I was on vacation in Monterey, CA and I met some older ladies in a Denny's restraunt. I had served a few years previously in the U.S. Army and found out that this group of ladies were all World War II veterans! They flew planes and had a part in helping to win the war! I was impressed. They were a great group of ladies. Very interesting....

hmmmmm.....i love the idea of being an np specializing in palliative care.

i have been contemplating returning to school, unsure of what i wanted to do but now that sounds awesome.

before nsg, i always wanted to be an attorney, but decided against it for i could never represent a client who i thought was guilty.

Specializes in ER.

Seriously! We have a farm and are trying to get to the point where it will pay me to stay home. Milk the goats, sell the milk, sell some goats, make soap, cheese, other products and sell over the internet. We have a large organic garden and free range chickens. Life is good! My husband makes custom knives and our farm is paid for. I am looking forward to being a stay at home goat mom!

I'd do it too if it meant being able to stay at home and make a decent living. I would'nt mind doing home health visits for a few patients, but those jobs seem hard to find and usually require you to be a RN. I want to go back to school but it's difficult with 4 kids at home and a husband who just recently had brain surgery. Trying to get back on our feet.....

I have to admit that I don't like lawyers as a species. I remember my ex-boyfriend talking about his Harvard-educated lawyer father -- that it bothered him that his father thought about law being so malleable (which it is, but if everybody thought that way, who would obey?)

But you shouldn't decide against law simply because you could never represent a client who you thought was guilty. There's a lot of law work that has nothing to do with criminal law. (criminy, look at John Edwards, for instance)...and, besides, you could always work in a D.A.'s office, where you prosecute, not defend.
