DITTO!!! PHARMACY!

Now iam wishing that I took up pharmacy instead LOL

Well, I did both. Got an ADN worked for a few months in LTC. Had to go to Milwaukee from Chicago to get that job as a new grad with no prior nursing employment. Worked at a hospital for a couple months then decided to go to pharmacy school. Always knew I did not want to do floor nursing my entire life. Worked weekend program 7P to 7A for 2 years while in pharmacy school. Went to UIC. Worked as a retail RPH for 7 years on and off in Illinois. Then decided to get into hospital pharmacy. Just started a job at a large Missouri hospital in June. There are a few RPHs who were nurses both RNs and LPNs (the only ones I've met have been women). I think my ADN program in many ways was harder than my PharmD program although they were both hard in different ways. Joining study groups was an absolute must for me.

I would suggest that your sister get a part-time job as a CNA/PCT and/or pharm tech to try to get a feel for what she likes better and some experience to help her make an educated decision. At my hospital pharmacy a couple of the pharm techs are nursing students. One thing to keep in mind is that the job market is also getting very tight for pharmacists as well. Lots of new pharmacy schools have opened up in the past 10 years and even the older ones have increased their class sizes. Plus with the slowdown in the economy and the automation of a lot of pharmacist work, RPH jobs are getting pretty tight in a lot of places. I had to move to Missouri to find a hospital willing to train me into hospital pharmacy after I had been working retail for 7 years. Good Luck.

oh wow.. so the economy did not just hit jobs for nurses.. but pharmacists as well.. so sad..

pharmacy = $$$

;)

But it depends upon what her personality is. That's a tough decision!

How about nursing with a minor in Marketing so she can become a pharmacy rep??? Now we're talking BIG money!!!

Pharmacy. Lol.

I'm an RN and hope to go to pharmacy school when my son is grown (he's only 6, and I took enough time away from him for nursing school).

Ok, I'll be brave and go against the grain...

Nursing!

Even though the economy is horrible right now, one of the reasons I chose to obtain my BSN (and in the future my MSN and possibly a Doctorate) was all of the choices one can pursue within Nursing.

With a Nursing degree you are not just limited to floor nursing you can work with the Centers for Disease Control (on their website you'll see that they are recruiting for RNs), the World Health Organization, a pharmaceutical rep, TeleNursing, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, a Nurse Entrepeneur...

The possibilities are absolutely endless.
