What does it mean to you, the nurse, to say that it's important to have a say in patient care issues?
What would you like to have more of a say in deciding for the patient?
Can you explain and describe exactly what autonomy means to you?
How much autonomy in patient care decisions should we nurses have?

It means to me the authority and abillity to utilize my nursing skills and not be micromanaged.......
I have tons of opportunities to effect patient outcomes every day........
Become involved in QI and you can really start to effect outcomes.........

autonomy to me means that i am able to use my clinical knowledge and skills to make nursing decisions that positively affect the outcome for the patient.
if i didn't have an autonomous job, my feet would be out the door, looking for an autonomous job.

That I (and those I work with) will be judged on our abilities and knowledge rather than our sex, race, and the browness of our noses.
