Hi

I have not been offered it yet but have an interview. It is for a med surg weekend only job. It is for two 12hr shifts, 3weekends on one off. It is about 30min from home.

I now work on a med surg floor at a hospital that is about 50min from home it is also 24hr a week but three 8hr shifts that is everyother weekend.

I have 2 school age kids. Not sure what would be a better fit. Any advise?

Thanks

I'm not a nurse yet, but I would take the weekend job. The commute is shorter and you will have more time with the kids during the week to help with homework and still have time to play with them before tucking them in at night. Although, you will lose quality time with them 3 weekends a month you have gained more time with them during the week, I assume their school day ends approx 2 or 3pm and you still have 1 weekend a month to plan something really special.

i would take both jobs

If your kids are or will be heavy into sports or other weekend activities you won't get to cheer them on much you will either be working or sleeping 3 out of 4 weekend a month.

I have worked 24 hours a week through my kids growing up. You will work only 2 weekdays a week and everyother weekend. Which shift is it? If it is swing you can still attend kids activities on the weekends you work until you have to leave for work.

I have had options of going 12 hour shift and I have decline mainly because my whole weekend that I would work would always be shot.
