my mother was a pt a couple of weeks ago at a hospital in mid fla. on the little white board in her room was the following

wecidfyt? she asked if "what in the heck does that mean?"

i told her it stood for

what else can i do for you today? she asked if she was at walmart or the hospital, yes she was a&o x3.

so when her nurse comes in she asked the nurse what the letters on her board stood for and the nurse replied 'what else can i do for you today?

i thought my mom was going to bust a gut laughing! she told the nurse it sound like some one at a fast food drive in or a walmart greeter! not at a hospital, nurse laughed and said yeap another one of those stupid things we are suppuse to say to each pt.

seems customer service is more important than ever these days!

Which is precisely why I looked for a job outside of the hospital. Not that "customer service" is a bad thing, just that it has gotten to the point of lunacy. At my last job, we were required to continuously repeat core phrases like "Very good care" "I am rounding on you" "I have the time" blah blah. Just because these were key points on the satisfaction survey sent to the patients after discharge. I'm pretty sure most patients just want to be cared for safely, effectively and respectfully - not brainwashed. And I pretty sure they can tell that something is up when they hear the same thing over and over from everybody.

"Would you like to try a Xanax with your Tylenol this evening?"

that whole thing is patronizing - for the patients as well as the staff. another hospital that seems to view its nursing staff as bellhops or maids.

i guess they think that if someone's in there several times a day to fluff your pillow and offer you oj with a ****-eating grin it will cover up the very real staffing and operating problems the hospital has. how delightful.
