for those of you who have two jobs (12hr 3 shift both) how do you do it?? is it possible for one without family or other comitments?? i know it is not recomended but just need some ideas :)

I don't do that many but I do 2-12s at my benefit job and at least 1 12, usually 2-12s at my PRN job. I'm kind of old but can't imagine even a younger person would want to do 6 12s for very long. Good luck.

I was wondering about this too.

I would imagine it would be a lot less stressful to work 3 12hr shifts at the hospital and perhaps 3 8hr shifts at a nursing home.

I can't imagine working 6 12 hr shifts and having a normal life. I would think you would burn out very quickly, but I do think it might be possible for a year or so if you're saving up for your first house or want to pay off your student loans.

Also you're really working more than 12hrs a day, you have to factor in the drive to work, etc.

I am fortunate to work 36 hours at my full-time job in Long Term Care, and then PRN as a Hospice Nurse. Some weeks are 52+ hours, and I am 52+ years old!!! I've done this for over 5 years now, so it must be working for me on some level!

Just recently I was doing 12s seven days a week. That case ended and presently I do 32 and 34 respectively. I cut down from 46 to 34 with one employer. If one has a good reason to work so much, then one does what one has to do. I've been a workaholic all of my adult life, so it is a lifestyle for me. However, I can testify from my own experience, working around the clock every day of the week will take its toll, and one day the person will end up paying a high price. Balance in one's life is something to be sought after and enjoyed.

I've been working 4 12 hour shifts for almost a year and about every other week I pick up a 5th. I do it for financial reasons, not by choice. I can warn you that everything else becomes second, including your health, despite the best of intentions. For me there is no magic way to work this much, I just do it. The paycheck is excellent though.

i worked weekend option [32] and 3 or 4 8 hr shifts during the week

i enabled me to pay off some debts and get a new car but i have know several nurses who worked every day at one place or another

one had a special needs dtr and his wife satyed at thome with her and he worked outlandish doubles i don't think he had a day of in the time i knew him

another woman worked we option and worked five 8 hr shifts during the week..she said that they lived off of her husbands pay and everything she earned went to pay down on their house and to buy big ticket items like cars or home repairs

everybody does what they feel like they have to do but i think that the old adage of stopping to smell the roses is a good idea too

I work weekend doubles at a LTC and then 5-8hr shifts for a hospice urgent care where if I dont get a call I get to sleep at home and get paid full salary. But the weeks that I have to work the whole 72hrs a week it tears me up but if your determined you can do it.
