Tube Feeding

hey everyone,

This is only my second time posting a message on this site but I visit it regularly. I'm not yet a nursing student (hoping to be excepted next Sept) so I've never really had anything to post, but today I got some bad news and would like some input. My fiancee is in the hospital for pneumonia and was told today that he will need a tube feeding put it because the flap that covers your airway when you eat is not doing its job. This is devastating news because he also has NF2 which has rendered both of his arms and legs to be fairly useless. :o :crying2: I was just wondering if you guys had any info about tube feeding you'd be willing to share and any thoughts or sugestions. Any help given would be greatly appreciated. You guys are a great bunch of people!

Wow, so sorry for your loss. Keep plugging on.

Flo1216 I thought I'd reply to your post about NF2. it's a rare disease so there is not a whole bunch of info on it but we do know some. it is tumors along the CNS which affect the nerves in the body. There is no cure as of yet. They may do radiation as they did with my fiancee but.... We were told that if we were to have kids then they would have a 50% chance of getting the disease also. Apart from that there is really not much else we know about it.

Kim, somehow I missed this thread. I'm truly sorry that your fiance passed away. What an awful Christmas present. You seem like you're holding up as well as can be expected--please feel free to check in with us and post, even if it's about nothing in particular. You have support here.

KIM, I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR LOSS. JUST REMEMBER THAT WE ARE ALL HERE FOR YOU AND YOU HAVE A SPECIAL ANGEL WATCHING OVER YOU. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND GOOD LUCK WITH NURSING SCHOOL. I LOST MY LITTLE GIRL 7 YEARS AGO. SHE KNEW MAMA WANTED TO BE A NURSE. AT 1ST I DIDN'T THINK I COULD GO THROUGH WITH NURSING SCHOOL. BUT I WANTED TO MAKE HER PROUD AND REACH MY GOALS.... IN MAY OF THIS YEAR I WILL ACHIEVE THAT GOAL WHEN I FINISH RN SCHOOL. I KNOW MY LITTLE ANGEL IS WATCHING OVER ME. MEL IS RIGHT ... YOU DO HAVE SUPPORT HERE. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND BE STRONG.

Oh Kim, I can't figure out how I missed this thread before! I am so terribly sorry about your loss of you beloved! THat must have been so hard for you! Sending prayers for strenght and peace your way. Please feel free to post anytime, even if you just need a cyber shoulder to cry on.

Kim, so very sorry for your loss. My condolences.

Whenever you feel like "talking" come over her, there is always someone "listening" to you!

Take care of yourself and let your grieve out, Renee
