Too Much?

Hi,

I am taking my first science class next week (Intro. to Biology). I have to take this class since I have been out of school over 10 years. My question is...I am not sure if I should take another class with it. Alot of people say this will be hard enough and I should take it by itself. I was going to take American Government also. I am taking the Bio. class in the classroom and wanted to take the Government online. I work only part-time. Can anyone give me some advice? Is American Goverernment very involved? I hear Biology is. Thanks.

I have been out of school a little over a year so I think I can still give some feedback.

If you are working part time I can't imagine it not being doable. Do you have kids that keep you on your toes or kids that are capable of giving you space? Do you have alot dedicated time for other activities?

I remember taking bio years ago with other classes at the age of 18 and no other responsiblities at a big university. Everything was hard for me at that age. If they are very involved it will depend of the teacher/professor. Ask around about which teacher is best. For bio easiest may not be best though.

When I went back to school when I was prego (in my 30's)and started nursing school when both my kids were in diapers it was easier than I thought.

Do not go off what others say. Only you know what you can handle.

If you go into it thinking it is too hard than it will be too hard.

(I've proven that theory many times to myself, that is why I did not go back to school till I was older)

I say: Start both classes and if it seems you may not handle it drop one.

You do not know till you try.

I think as long as you are not taking another science class you should be fine. Biology can be challenging because there is a lot of new vocabulary. Government should be okay with it though. If you are taking it online it probably be you reading one chapter a week and having a test on it. And probably a discussion once a week. I took biology with chemistry and 3 online classes. That was really tough because I did not realize there would be that many new words. I ended up getting a C in that and a B in Chemistry. Could have been better (especially since I was right on the edge of a B for Bio). So take both, just make sure to study your vocab as much as possible!

I have only one child that is 22 years old, so he doesn't take up any time!!! (LOL). My husband works...so it is just me I have to worry about. Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

especially if the government class is online, then you just HAVE to put in the time to do what you need to do. Lots of postings/papers/tests, etc? are you familiar with online classes?

then science is a lot of new vocab, but if you are well-read you should be able to figure some of it out...plus I remembered a lot from HS biology.

so much depends on your interests. I believe a mature student is better able to focus on what needs to be done and in what order. I agree that another science course might stress you too much, at least till after this semester when you have a better grip on what you can/cannot do. Oh-- don't forget to find out about tutors. Once I learned there were grad students willing to tutor me on just about everything I took advantage. Sometimes only 1-2 sessions, but I always gained insights to boost my grades and my confidence.

I am very familiar with online classes...I have taken four of them online so far (this will be my 5th). I did enjoy it and did do well, two A's and two B's.
