Specializes in Cardiothoracic ICU.

Forgetting how to spell too?

Specializes in Pediatrics, Home health.

I feel the same way, I graduated in may and it took me 5 months to find a job, its in home health, and i'm so grateful for it, but it's defiantly not what i want to be doing, i'm still actively looking for a hospital job and the longer i go without getting an interview or even a call back the worse i feel about myself, it's extremely frustrating but i know there are many other nurses out there in the same situation.

Specializes in med/surg tele, postpartum, mother baby.

7 months, probably 500 applications, one interview, no job... I feel like if I ever do get a job I will have no idea what to do with my patients :crying2:

I've been looking for a job since mid November, 2010. I've had two interviews and heard nothing since then. What exactly are they looking for, that New Grad. RN's aren't qualified for? Was it this hard to find a job before the recession? It definitely makes me lose my confidence, for sure. Knowing that you graduated and passed the boards, but still are not QUALIFIED... I don't get it?????!!????!

No it wasn't this hard to find a job just a couple years ago, I knew new grads who had offers before they even took the NCLEX. The hospitals are forcing us new grads to get jobs in LTC, Home Health and outside the medical field even; because they can hire people who have years of experience and they don't have to train. Personally I feel like they're going to be hit with a bunch of people retiring at the same time, then they're going to have to hire a ton of new grads and train them, they might as well just suck up the costs and train us now instead of reserving all the jobs for people with experience. The market is going to be even worse when a ton of nurses graduate this year, then we'll have even more people to compete with:mad:

Specializes in ICU, ER.

Ditto Tinysam's post except I'm in LTC instead of HH.

I am super thankful that I have a job, but I strongly dislike the work because I don't feel fulfilled at all. At first it wasn't so bad because I was busy learning about the residents and stuff, but now that I've settled in I am SO bored. I absolutely dread going in and I come home and cry almost every day. I feel like I am losing all my skills and knowledge.

Specializes in PDN.

i feel for you. reading articles and write-ups will help you little by little.

but "once a nurse, will always be a nurse" as my trainor in pdn used to tell every time i have to relearn something regarding the area. it's never easy but honesty can save you. if you're in-doubt of your skills never be aggressive.

god bless you :anpom:

Specializes in ICU, ER, EP,.

While I feel for you, I had to work like 9 months of geriatric psyc to pay the bills and I hounded and stalked hospitals until one hired me in acute care.

So my point is... I had to take something that was something I swore I'd never do... to look more appealing for future hiring, no matter how pathetic it was... no offence to geriatric psyc nurses.. I learned tons there.

If you can financially afford it.. than absolutely yes wait it out. Depending upon the economy in your area.. you may be waiting for a long time.

I had to take a 3-11 job in psyc.. the worst shift with three babies at home... and I was so lucky to have a wonderful husband that helped support us through.

My point again is that if you're in a tough market... you may have to take the worst of the worst.... after you're hired and have an excellent reference you have better odds to apply and get hired for what might work better for your family.

Waiting has many negatives if your in an environment that is competitive. Just food for thought... I wish you the best in your job search.

I only had 3 interview since Nov, 2 from davita and 1 from LTC. I kinda don't like davita anymore. They email me of wanting to have phone interview. I gave them a set date, waited all day,and receive no call. I emailed them why they didn't call and they gave me no reason. They email me again for formal interview but gave me wrong date. Very unprofessional!!. I will never ever beg for them to hire me!

I'm kinda feel sorry to myself because until now I still have no job. I'm not even sure if it's my resume that sucks or my interview skills . The more I wait the more I feel like useless. :crying2:

I really want to try the LTC but I'm really scared. I heard there's only 1 RN per shift. I think this is not a good Idea for new RN to work.

Rejection after the Interview that hurts me more!!

The staffing ratios are different depending on which facility you work for.

When we are fully staffed at my facility (rarely happens), we have 1 RN & 1 RPN per floor on days, 1 RPN/RN on each floor and 1 RN float on evenings, and on nights 1 RN and occasionally if it's particularly busy they'll throw a RPN on nights too.
