Tattoos and nursing

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I'm new to this board, but I am wanting to start my pre requisite classes to become a nurse. Recently I was watching a deadly women murder show, I'm not sure exactly what it's called, but there was a nurse who had a grim reaper tattoo and would kill her patients..... She thought she was ending their suffering...... I bring the show up because I have a tattoo of a grim reaper on my thigh. My tattoo isn't related at all to wanting to end anyone's pain or anything like that. After my dad died I was really all over the place emotionally, and after I accepted it and got past it, I realized that it was just meant to be in a way?? Idk how to explain it but after having multiple surgeries on his heart, he just couldn't take anymore. My grim reaper isn't as scary looking as alot of them I've seen, it's just a robed man that you can't see facial features just the robe, with pink cherry blossoms all around it, it takes up my left thigh. It kinda means to me that there can be beauty in death, and not to fear it?? That still might seem creepy :/ I really wish I was better with words but it means alot to me. Could it be misinterpreted as me wanting to be an angel of death or like the nurse in the show? Could my grim reaper tattoo prevent me from getting a job?

Oh and by the way, I'm a woman, so a grim reaper tattoo might be even more weird, since I've only seen men with them.

What kind of scrubs would show your thigh?

Also a simple search here will reveal MANY threads on tattoos.

Also sorry about your father.

I just didn't know what kind of questions they would ask in an interview since all the jobs I've had have been really relaxed and they don't care about tattoos or piercings. or talking to a nurse and having tattoos come up or something like that, idk if people would side eye me for it. I'm also trying to figure out the site still, and had only found one thread on tattoos and it was closed so I couldn't ask about a grim reaper.

If it's not a visible tattoo (aka your scrubs won't show it), they won't care.

Ok, thank you for the responses :) I didnt even think that a tattoo like that might be a problem until I saw that show, so I was a little worried after.

As long as it is not visible I wouldn't worry.

Oh yeah, be careful if you wear those scrubs that tie and have no elastic. I know I've read a few stories here where people were hurrying down the hall only to have the tie come loose and the scrubs fall down. Inevitably in front of people. Sometimes tripping was also involved.

Why would you even think about disclosing your tattoo? That's nearly the equivalent of walking up to a cop and asking him or her if they would like to purchase illicit drugs.

Hint: if you are on facebook, make sure that your pictures are private or even removed when you are job seeking.
