Question: New Grad Reimbursement Programs

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am aware that some hospitals offer some amazing new graduate orientation programs into various departments.

For example, a hospital in Las Vegas hires new grads into Med Surg, ED, and even surgical programs with very lengthy orientation and preceptor periods. They can do this because this hospital gets reimbursed by a government program that rewards hospitals for hiring new graduates. This program supplements this hospital's training costs by paying half of the new grad's salary for a period of 1 to 2 years.

Does anyone know about this program? Is it federal or state? I'm scouring the internet and cannot find any information on it but I know that it exists. Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The programs that I know are medical residencies not nursing residencies.

Can you link to a hospital program?

There is a nurse loan repayment or scholarship program that's not hospital based but repaid loans or offers scholarships in exchange for working in an underserved area in need of primary caw providers.

Which hospital in Las Vegas is this? Do you have a link to this program? I've never heard of a government program that reimburses hospitals for hiring new graduates. I would think if that was a real thing, new grads wouldn't be having as much a hard time finding their first job. I've only ever heard of HRSA which is a loan repayment program.

I'm aware of the loan repayment plans available to underserved hospitals/areas.

I do not have a link to the program- in fact that is what I'm asking for. I'm looking for information to hopefully implement this program into the hospital I work at. The hospital that I am referring to that is currently utilizing this program is Mt. View Hospital in Las Vegas. This hospital has ED programs as well as surgical programs for new grads. The hospital qualifies for this by providing these orientees with extended preceptorships. In return, the program supplements the hospital by paying half of the new grad's salary. It's almost like the federal work/study program used at universities. Any information would be helpful.

Perhaps contact Mt. View Hospital and see if they can get information? It might be state specific and not federally funded, etc. They might be able to help you out better than us, because I've quite honestly never heard of anything like this.

Again the only programs I have heard of that funds similar training is restricted to physicians/residencies & fellowships. Why not contact HR at the facility and inquire

All references on the Mountainview Hospital website is to the funding received for their expanded graduate medical education program. Nothing for nursing not even nurse externs or nurse resident or new graduate program

Completely agree. I've contacted people from Mt. View and just haven't heard back from them. I was just hoping someone might have had some insight into this program and could give me a head start.
