Would like some positive feedback on Med-surg nursing. I am now on orientation, and will be working the 7/70 schedule. That is 7 nocs, 10 hour shifts and then 7 nocs off. I am used to 2nd shift so this will be an adjustment. Have been hearing some negative comments on Med-Surg, and sure would like to hear from those of you who like your positions. I guess I just need some inspiration! Also, can you give me some pointers on how to get along well with preceptors? I know its not everyone's favorite thing to do, and I have had a bad exp. in the past with this. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. :):)

This might wind be using a VERY lightly-used thread.
Good luck.

Hmmm....
7 tens in a row?
I'm really TRYING to find something positive in that.

That does sound like a tough schedule. Good luck to you.
Ok...I found one.
You wont have to worry much about getting sunburned.

And think about all the time you'll have off! Although you might need that long to recuperate and feel like a normal person again. Honestly, I don't think anyone should work 7 shifts in a row, no matter what shift it is.
But you know yourself, and what you can handle, and hopefully you'll do well and shine in your new position.
Can't offer you anything more positive than that, since I'm still only a student.

$hit I just finished 4 twelves and am half asleep sitting here at the PC. Good luck with 7 tens, sounds rough but like mspurp said you know if your body and sanity can handle it. But the 7 off would be wonderful!
Oh, precepting...............if you have a good one, let him/her teach you, even if you know what they are telling you LISTEN, it maybe a better more efficient way to get the job done.

Sounds like a tough schedule, but how's the staffing otherwise? Do the other team members help each other? I love my MS/Tele job because of this; makes me feel like if I get a bunch of admits in a row and I'm sinking, someone will at least help me out with the database or something.... :)
Other than that, each facility is different. Feel free to PM me if you feel the need...
Good luck! :)
WOW...NOW I feel really sure I'm making the right decision. By the way Russel, tanning is bad for ya anyhow! Thinking like taking a job share now. :uhoh21:
