Please Help! Which Ones Should I Pick?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi,

I graduated from an accelerated BSN two months ago. I worked as a CNA at a long-term care facility for a little over a year before nursing school and fell in love with wound care. During nursing school I was able to shadow a nurse practitioner at a surgical and wound care center and I was like this is it. I asked the NP about the career path but I was left with just more questions than answers. I also think that my senior synthesis clinical (short term post-op) left a desire on me of working with any stage in the surgical process. I'm going crazy trying to find a way in which I can combine these two.

I am applying to a new RN residency and I still can't make up my mind about what are the units I should include with my application to start my path in the right place and continue to grow until I reach my goal (s). Based on what I have said so far, do any of you have any recommendations? OR, PACU, PCU, M/S? This is what they offer and I can apply for different ones and the have a 2 year contract: OR (18 weeks or more of training in a variety of procedures, after 2 years I should begin RNFA), PACU, PCU (residency provides EKG, ACLS, and Critical Care Core 1 cert.), Med/Surg (emphasis on ortho/neuro and general surgery with some chemo hospice pt), CCU, Rehab, ER, and float pool (PCU, M/S, Rehab, and a year port residency you train on ICU and ER. Any other units or setting that are a better option considering I am new to nursing? I will appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanks in advance.

Apply for all units and if you get lucky, you might get one interview. I don't know where you live that new grad opportunities are easily acquired. A new grad getting to pick which unit to be trained in is almost unheard of.

That, in a nutshell, is why no one is answering your post.

Thank you so much Hoozdo for replying! I was losing hope.

I thought about doing that but I 'm afraid they would interpret that as me not knowing what I want. The instructions say to do a cover letter and list my areas/units of interests.

I live in Illinois...Greater St. Louis Region. Thanks again!!
