Besides all scenarios I found out there will be this type of q's like....

What would you do if...

1.Family member cardiac arrests in a semi-private room?

2.You are scheduled for an annual evaluation today?

3.Dr. says you have to accompany your Patient to a procedure that may last up to 90 minutes?

4.You have a code at the beginning of shift and family members are still in the room?

5.You have a nursing student to work with you during your shift?

6.There will be a staff meeting in 1 hr?

Consider before responding to these scenarios what you must do, should do, and what you could do.

Anybody has any idea how to answer this type of or similar q's

For Example #3 what need to say doctor ?

Are there any suggestions on how to prepare for the computer PBDS? I am a new grad and very uncertain of the responses that are needed to pass.

I leave for CA next week and i am SO stressed about this test. Your right if I fail it I will be 3000 miles from home and no where to go!!!!!!!

So stressed!!!!!

I took this test twice- first before orientation & then 10 weeks after orientation. I was told I 'regressed' & was asked to resign (or I would be fired). I was not permitted to know my test results nor the "answers"- the preferred responses. I was shocked & have lost confidence in my skills. I went into the test 'cold' not knowing how to prepare. I have 10 years of experience and an advanced degree. However I have been away from the bedside for 4 years- working in a very specialized clinic setting.

That's like our instructors saying that we were doing as good, and some cases better than the home campus with 'in class lectures'. (We were online....) Hmmm....some things just doesn't say what they are thinking they do.

If she really did say that, then she wasn't much of an educator, eh?

Thanks to all the posters for including helpful tips on passing the PBDS! As a new hire, I reluctantly had to take this test. This was my the third time and unfortunately my computer froze this time around for five minutes while test preceptors madly brainstormed to solve the problem. Luckily I was able to ketchup and wasn't stuck holding the mustard STS.

My one mistake on the test was thinking that the man who fell from a telephone poll had suffered a Pneumothorax. The answer they were looking for was lowered ICP. I missed catching the hallmark sign of intracranial bleed: an increase in pulse (pulse pressure) and decrease in BP.

That should have been increased ICP or decreased LOC

I heard Dorothy speak at a PBDS seminar when our program when up. I have to say that her tactics of teaching were downright appalling - but her tactics were driven by the desire to pull the answer out of the person because "they know it".

I lost all confidence in her when she publicly humilated some of my peers in the room and when she said that she doesn't believe in 3rd spacing of fluids as a pathophysiological occurance.:banghead:

She has people that rate the first tests, but those that take the test for the second time are rated by her. She is like 75 years old...

Please HELP! Took the PBDS last week an failed. I work as a traveler and must take the med/surg test again on the 14th at PCMH in NC. I didn't expect the test to be like it was. I thought I answered with the right diagnosis and in detail for interventions and rationales. But obviously I didn't. Have been to every website for info on PBDS I could find. I would appreciate anything that would help taking test again. Also need advice on how to answer startling statements.I can't afford to lose this contract. Thanks so much.

I have to take the Pbds for ICU at Pitt in NC next week..can anyone give me any idea of what to expect..I have worked ICU, CVICU, and trauma but I am concerned...

I took the PBDS for intensive care at PCH in greenville, nc last month and passed. I was the only one of 8 travelers taking it that day that made it through. The biggest downfall of most is not painting the picture to the physician of what you see. Also, if the patient already has IV's, oxygen, etc...dont say that you would do these things in your list. They consider this "suspicious". When you say you are going to call the md, make sure you write down what you are going to say as if you were talking to him: example: 22 y/o involved in mva, 2 days post spleenectomy, vital signs are:....and so on.. If I can help you anymore, send me a message and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible..good luck!
