I love when I get home and then remember that i forgot to tell the oncoming nurse something. I mean, I know they are going to look in the chart and see that CBCs are needed every six hours but I probably could have told them that. I just hate, hate, hate when I forgot to tell them something. I'm not at all concerned about it since the resident will eventually put in an triple lumen IJ tonight and I'm sure the lady, who by the way is 94yo, won't mind waiting for her labs to be done until after that IJ is placed. I am not poking someone more the three times for blood, I poked her six times for blood plus an ABG which really wasn't needed but the residents wanted one anyhow. The poor lady is bruised up and down her arms. Guess I can't really worry about it now."insert sigh".

Just venting. Thanks for reading.

Kati,

I have called the next shift a few times to let them know something I forgot. We all do this from time to time. One thing that helps is that we have in addition to metavision we have a blue sheet that tells everything. We put on how often labs are done, etc.

Where can i get this blue sheet at because I haven't seen one so far. I did tell the nurse that I wasn't drawing another lab until the resident put that IJ in. It's ridiculous. She had troponins ordered q 6x3 which she really didn't need because her admitting complaint was not cardiac related at all. Secondly, the medical team cleared her for surgery so why am I doing all these labs. I think these residents get annoyed with me but my point is, don't make me do something that in the end was unneccessary to begin with. For example, the abg.

We have them on 6 west. We are using them less and less. I really like them for report.

I too agree with the labs for no reason. Why do we do this to people becasue we can?
