NVCC Prospective Nursing Students

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hey I decided to start a new thread! Is anyone here preparing for NVCC's nursing programs this summer of 2009? If you can add if you have already taken the TEAS or the Computer Comp test that would be great! I'd really like to start a discussion going about NVCC which btw is Northern Virginia Community College. Is anyone doing phlebotomy at NVCC? hope to start a discussion soon :nuke:

Also, I forgot to mention! I meant is anyone getting ready for one of the accelerated, traditional or momentum program for 2010, 2011?...

Specializes in Med/Surg.

When I lived in alexandria I took the computer entrance test. Nvcc is an excellent nursing program and they have a great reputation for turning out great nurses. I recomend doing their online program. Good luck to you!

Hi,

I'm planning on applying to the '10 Accelerated In-Person program. I'm completing the last of my pre-reqs this Fall and plan to sit for the TEAS either later this year or in spring since I won't have any classes. Good luck

Hey Jess and Missprenurse!! I'm so glad you guys found my thread!! I couldn't find it at all when I typed it on the search engine through allnurses. Hey Jess, why do you suggest the online program? I really want to start narrowing down and make a decision which program to take because technically the TEAS test is the only thing holding me back before applying. I plan on taking it before school starts. I have yet to take the computer test but I'm taking the computer class anyway so that isn't my main concern (I'm doing the associate in science and it requires a computer class for NVCC) Jess did you already complete your nursing degree at nova?

Missprenurse! I too have my heart set out for the in person one!! Which pre reqs are you taking in the fall? Have you started studying for the teas test?

I'm so super excited you guys! I feel like 2010 is my year to shine. I got in NVCC's phlebotomy, which I'm so super excited for! I'm doing the one in the spring while I wait for nursing in the summer. Anyways do you guys know how to PM (private message) Can either one of you guys PM me? I'd like to see how to start that. Thanks. Hope to talk to you guys soon!

Hi Future RN,

I don't know how to PM, but I think you have to have a certain number of posts before you can do so. I've only responded to a few so I don't have that option yet.

Congrats on getting into Phlebotomy.:yeah: I'm actually in the evening CNA program which ends in Aug. I'm pretty sure we'll learn most of this info during our first semester, but since I'm taking a big leap of faith here (like so many) and switching careers I wanted to make sure this is something I REALLY wanted to do.

For this fall I'm registered for NAS162, HLT 250 and HIM111...rather than taking intro to med term ( I think I'm turning into a knowledge junkie)

I was able to get a free copy of a study guide for nursing pre-entrance exams and have only done a couple practice sections. I'm sooooo out of practice when it comes to even basic algebra so I'm definitely going to take it later this year just on the off chance I don't pass and have to sit for it again. So you have you gotten all the other pre-reqs out of the way?

Hey prenurse! Yeah I have every single pre req done for nursing, and the teas test is the only thing left. Thanks for the congrats, I'm actually really looking forward for phlebotomy. I know it's not till spring but this will be my first real hands on exposure to patients so I'm looking forward to it. So how's the CNA program going? congrats to you you're almost done!:lol2: Which NAS162 are you taking? I had Dr. Raji Subramanian and she was one of my favorite professors. She's actually one of the main people who directed me to go into nursing, and she's overall a great teacher! I had HLT250 with Dr. Leslie Ellwood. Very smart and he doesn't make class stressfull at all. What is HIM 111? I took HLT141 online with David C. Munch and I liked the class. Not too much interaction since it was online ofcourse. How did you get a free copy of study guide? I know what you mean...:uhoh3: I've told my friend about the test and she kept saying "it's pretty much H.S material"..well it's tough if you haven't looked at the material for a while.

I was just accepted into the momentum program at nvcc. I took both the computer competency test (when I was planning to apply for the traditional program) and the teas test at nova. The computer competency was simple (an example of a question would be "what color squiggly line appears underneath a misspelled word in a Microsoft word document"). Make sure you know the basics on creating PowerPoint presentations as well.

I took the teas twice. The first time I received just below a 78% in the science section only, and I had to retake the exam. The second time I received a 91 overall. The exam is very basic and the only reason that I found the science section challenging was because of the elementary science that it contained (for example: simple machines and mountain ranges). McGraw Hill's Nursing School Entrance Exams had everything that was covered on the exam except for the "elementary" science information, which I looked up online.

If anyone is interested in using my old study materials (notes, print outs...) let me know. I haven't thrown them away yet, and they contain everything that I used to prepare. I also have a teas study guide that has some pink juicy juice spilled on the side from my four year old. (There's no damage to the inside pages.)

Hey tcs26!! I think i just emailed you, but I would love if if I can review some of your notes! I am currently studying myself..and the days are winding down to test day, so wish me luck! This will also be my second attempt for the teas, but this time better prepared :)

Do you happen to still have the notes? If so I would love to look at them. I have finished reviewing the study guide and took the online assessment. I just need additional help.

Thanks!
