I recently applied for a job at a hospital I would LOVE to work at. I currently volunteer at this hospital one day a week and I was wondering.. would it be too forward if I dropped a copy of my resume and cover letter off to the NM. I volunteer on "A" North and the job is on "A" East, so it would be easy to do. I just don't want to scare the NM off but it seems like in this job market you need to stand out.

Advice please! I go in tomorrow at 12.

I would highly encourage you to do so. In this market, it is easy for your resume to get lost in the black hole of all the other applications. If you are worried about bothering the NM, just ask him/her if it is a good time to briefly talk with them or if you could come back later.

I would go for it, it defiantly seems like if you are known by the managers you'll have a much better chance. I'd say just introduce yourself and give her your resume and tell her how excited you are at the possibility of getting to work on the unit, but don't take up too much of her time. GOOD LUCK!

If I have a lot of applications to look through the first to get interviews are those that followup that application with a phone call or by stopping by. Make sure you are dressed appropriately. It is discouraging for this old NM to see RN's showing up to check on a job, application or for interview in jeans or flip flops! They never get hired by me!

Thank you so much for the advice. I am going to do it! :) This is very new to me as I am not a very "aggressive" person. I plan on arriving a little early in a nice outfit and stopping by with my resume and cover letter in hand. I am hoping it pays off. I am VERY exciting about this opportunity.

Well it was not easy but I got my resume to the NM. It is a small unit and I was unable to find his office so I asked the secretary. She was very hesitant but called him anyway. Unfortunately he wasn't in so she offered to put my resume and coverletter in his mailbox. Who knows if he will even see it, can't say I didn't try.

I am not sure what you mean.. I gave my resume to the NM already. I am hoping I will hear something back.

JUst that when you go to an interview you should keep extra copies of your resume with you. They may claim to lose it or that they didn't get it or find it....this way you are always prepaired....
