My First Shot!!!

Did it today. I was nervous too. It was a pre-packaged Lovenox shot. The patient's skin was thicker than I had anticipated, but I got it in enough, and all the medicine went in. No blood, no casualties :roll

:chuckle That's great that you all did good with your first shots. A few weeks ago a new 1st year RN student gave an insulin shot to one of the patients and the patient died a few seconds later! We all felt so sorry for the student. This happened at a hospice facility and the shot had absolutely nothing to do with the patient's death. I can only imagine how the student must have felt!!! :crying2:

Funny thing, isn't it? Just when it's feeling like the whole point of clinicals is tormenting nursing students, you get to actually do something, and it's all worth it! My first was insulin R.

Just out of curiosity, which clinical semester is everyone in who just gave their first shots. I am only asking because I have not gotten a chance to give anyone a shot yet but I am only in my first semester of clinical and I wondered how other schools are doing it. So far about all I have done is wipe bottoms and get people dressed. I thought that it would bother me more to have to clean people up but it is amazing how much easier it is when you know that the person right in front of you is relying on you to clean them or else it will not get done.
