wait, are those combined on one unit? cardiac progressive care and post op ortho? don't really seem like they go together too well. too much to get the hang of all at once, as a new grad-the ins and outs of cardiology and orthopedics?

i worked on a post op cardiac surgery progressive care unit for 15 months-my first post nursing school job-it was fun. it was hard!

    take your resume
wear something nice and professional. no crazy makeup, crazy jewelry, too short skirts, etc.
think of questions you have, too. they will always ask you if you have questions.
    good luck!

I have an interview coming up too (and I'm a new grad too). I know how stressful it is.

My advice is to take a few deep breaths before you go in!

    Good luck!

Questions to ask: How long will my orientation last? Do you offer extra classes (ACLS, EKG)? Nurse patient ratios? Experience of staff on unit? Reasons for turnover?

I worked on a cardiac stepdown unit after I graduated. I learned a lot. The nursing staff on nights was very young and unexperienced. I think I would have learned more if I had been on a unit with more experienced nurses.

    Good luck!

Hey hey.... just a few points ( I'm sure you'll get loads of these:wink2 )
    * Like someone already said: Look professional.... it'll help you feel and look the part.
*Try to relax.... a few deep breaths will help before you answer the questions.
    * Look enthusiastic... I'm sure this'll come naturally.
    * I don't know how it is in the US but here, one of the questions almost definitely on..... 'what's the latest research or article you've read which might / will affect your clinical practice'.
So perhaps read an article or 2 when you get the chance.

I'm sure you'll get loads more advice.

    Best of luck!

PS. If you don't get the job ( I'm NOT saying you won't ), try not to feel bad but try to think of it as a practice run for the next one. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Hi everyone thank you for all the advice!!!! Much Appreciated!!!!......I am so nervous...this is my first ever interview......I was wondering if i have to were a suit or skirt.....I was wondering if i could get away with wearing black dress pants?????????

I wore a pair of black dress pants, a white long sleeved button up shirt with thin black pin stripes and some black 2 1/2 inch hills to my interview. I had a bubbly enthusiastic attitude. All the questions that I had for the interviewer was eventually covered. When they asked me what I was looking for in my nursing career I told them that I am looking for a Team effort. I told them I don't like to hear "that's not my patient". I want to see team work. I guess it worked, I am now working there! (By the way, the team work thing wasn't a lie, I really was looking for that and I got it!) Hope this helps.
