So my poor little girl has the swine flu, I was hoping she would be better today she went almost the 24 hours with out the fever and then this morning it was 102 again :o. Of course since she has been out with this I have stayed home with her. Unfortunately everyone in the area where I live especially the kids are getting their turn with it, thankfully I havent gotten it yet. Where I work is not understanding about using our sick time so I am so scared that I am going to get it and need to take additional time off for myself. How are the places where you work when you use sick time (for legitimate reasons)? Are they understanding or do they still give you flack even if you are on your death bed?

if you work in a healthcare facility my suggestion would be that you try to get the H1N1 vaccine. Most employers are offering it to their employees. How long have you been with your employer? I'm sure your illness and your daughters illness should be covered under short-term disability or FMLA. I mean this is a freaking pandemic we are talking about! Employers should definately not want you at work if you get the swine flu as that will only potentiate the ability for you to spread the potentially deadly virus to others. I would say if they give you trouble about it to seek out legal representation or even go to the news. How would they look as a company by forcing employees who have swine flu to come to work? I really can't see any company not being understanding about it.

Hope she feels better! I had H1N1 a few weeks ago, and I recovered fine. I had the same thing with the fluctuating fever, it came and went. I was exhausted for at least a week after my major symptoms were gone.

That's a good question. Are they telling people who aren't vaccinated and their immediate family members has H1N1 to stay home? *in school, haven't been to work in ages*

Also, I hope your daughter gets better fast!

Even if you don't have enough sick leave accrued, I highly doubt any facility wants you coming to work with it. If you suspect you're coming down with it, get yourself to a doctor ASAP and with an official diagnosis you can probably get FMLA so that any unpaid leave is covered. I don't know how long it takes before the vaccine takes effect, but if the virus is incubating and you have no symptoms it's too late. Hope your daughter recovers quickly!!

FMLA does not cover brief acute care absences for the most part. And most places do not let you take sick leave for another person's illness.

But they need to be a bit more understanding this year for this illness.

Ask them what they want you to do. Is there another responsible adult who can stay with your child? Best wishes.

My som was out last week for 4 days , my daughter was out for 3 days with swine flu-max temp was 103 with dry, unproductive cough.

My husband and I are OK-lots of handwashing and no snuggling or kisses from or to our kids.

Guess they won't be getting the 2 doses of swine flu vaccination that they will eventually be providing at school....

Our doctors did NOT want us to come to the clinic and expose more people. We talked about the symptoms over the phone-time, fluids, and ibuprofen and no Tamiflu.

In the cruel world of hospitals you use vacation or sick time then don't get paid. They don't care why.

I got swine flu abroad then the reg flu here. It's been a fun year. I suggest an apple in the mouth; worked for me and I felt lots better :D

I hope your daughter is well soonest!

At my facility it is mandated that if temp 100.4 or greater cannot come to work. It counts as an unscheduled abscense....if being out puts you over the limit for the year you will be written up even if you get SENT home sick by the supervisor. So.......people are comming to work sick and just not telling anyone. Bleh.......................

wow....glad i don't work where you work.

this begs the question: does a person's brain fall out automatically upon becoming part of administration? you really have to wonder about the people who come up with these rules.
