morning sickness but not pregnant

I have never been a morning person at all...ever since I started college, 2 years_ whenever I get up really early and start moving around I get soooo nauseas...I turn pale white, break out in a cold sweat, get dizzy and vomit. I usually work evening and night shifts but once I started a new job that started at 7am I would sleep a full C hours and be fine but then start working and this happens....and I'm not pregnant...its been happening for over 2 yrs.

I was just accepted to nursing school and will have to get up early for it and do clinicals very early....I'm afraid that it is going to mess up nursing school for me..anyone have any ideas why this is happening to me or what I can do about it?? Any help would be very much appreciated.

I have never heard of this, but you could try some things: you could try what they tell pregnant women, to keep water and saltines on the night stand and nibble on them before getting out of bed. You could also try getting up more slowly: sit up in bed for a while, then sit on the edge of the bed for a while, and just take it slooow. I don't know if any of that will help, and I have no idea what could be behind it, but I suppose it couldn't hurt to try.....Good Luck to you!! :)

I've known a lot of people that had this reaction to night shift, their whole body just couldn't adjust. I suppose this could happen if one is more an evening or night person.

OMG! I have had this same problem for over SIX years now!!! It was hard to deal with during nursing school. I was at the doctors place about a month ago and I brought it up and they just blew it off and attributed it to a lack of sleep without evening asking how much I sleep. I get at least 9 hours of sleep a night/day, too. I am not pregnant. It is an AWFUL feeling. It is the same feeling as morning sickness a prengnat lady would feel. It does go away after an hour or so but it's so hard to get up and going when that feeling comes! It's random. I work days and nights and not all mornings that I do day shift do I have that feeling. I tried to Google it and just read a bunch of stuff about esophagitis and hernias and other stuff that does not relate to me! Let mek now if you find anything out!

this happens to me also, i cannot remember a time when i wasn't nauseous in the morning. and the earlier i get up, the worse it is... which is a bummer when i have to get up at 4am for my clinicals. i keep a glass of water by my bed and a bottle of tums. as soon as i wake up, i take a drink and chew 2-3 tums. it works really well for me. i also avoid anything acidic in the morning, like orange juice, until i've had a high protein breakfast. that also helps.

Are you on the birth control pill? When I used to take my pills at night, I would always wake up sick to my stomach, and the earlier I woke up, the worse it was.

omg thank god!!! I swear I thought I was the only one! My doctor totally blew it off too..and its not about my body clock. Even for when I always slept during the night and got a full 8 or 9 hours of sleep it will happen...and the earlier the worse it is. Thanks for all the tips though!!! I am on birth control pilll...do you think that has something to do with it? I take it late at night right before bed. And I would eat breakfast but then there is a problem...way too nauseas to eat.I couldn't find anything online about this and no one had any idea of what is wrong...I started with a new home health patient and he was quad. So it was a lot of heavy lifting...made me sooo sick I had to quit after 2 days. It is so awful feeling I just want to die in the moment....and I'm afraid during clinicals I will look weak and unprofessional...they'll think I'm hungover or prego... I totally can't function when feeling this way.

That's interesting, fromthesea. I think I am going to have to try that out. Although, it doesn't happen every morning for me, it just happens when it decides to. I will try that you and see if it works! And nope, I am not on the pill either so ... it can't be the hormones.

OMG I thought I was the only one who did this!!!! I get really pale, nauseated, and shaky whenever I switch from night shift to day shift. My whole body feels like it's tingling, my chest hurts and the tingling goes from my toes to my fingertips as well! Trouble was, I was sleeping 10 sometimes 12 hours a night. It went away about a month of doing day shift, but BOY was I miserable!. I don't feel so freakish now!:lol2:

For all you nightshifters, does anyone have a problem with being sensitive to light? I burn so much more easily now; and it's getting worse the older I get! I can't even tolerate the sun anymore. I have to wear SPF 100 and wear sunglasses as well as hats whenever I will be in the sun longer than 30 minutes. It's crazy!

Ahhh the joys of working on the other side of the clock! :lol2:

IMHO you need to see an MD who won't blow this off.

I do days and nights but primarily nights and I do sleep during the day and I do not experience any of the problems associated with the sun that you talk about. I actually go to the tanning bed three times a week and even lay in the sun after going to the tanning bed because I like being pale. (:
