Mission Nursing

  1. I am interested in doing some mission work in a underdeveloped country. Hopefully I can use my skills as a nurse. Does anybody know any organizations that I can talk to about this.

Peace Corp, Red Cross, Docters w/o Borders,

Pat Robertson's 700 club sponsors a medical group/has own plane setup with ORs/equipment for doing humanitarian medical relief - I have not worked with them, as I am not of the 'appropriate' religious belief to be permitted to serve.

A Christian group that accepts me - does missions in Central African Republic - a mission hospital, sponsored by Rotary Club/several European groups - also teaches local nursing staff - patients include many mothers w/AIDs in that area - does a mission each summer - some of the work is manual repair of facility. PM me if you need more info.

Try www.nursingvolunteer.com Has links to several organizations that use nurses for medical missions both humanitarian and religious-related.

Try Catholic Charities also. I have heard of volunteer clinics in Peru and Haiti.

I work with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) They have bases all over the world. www.ywam.org I also work with Mercy Ships www.mercyships.org A friend of my is leading a team from the Tyler, TX USA base this June to The Gambia. He is with YWAM. You do not have to be from the states to go just apply online at the above addy. I went with him last year to The Gambia, it was a wonderful time. There are trips all over the world at different times of the year for short term missions. There are spots for full time missions work with both mercy ships and YWAM. I was on board the M/V Caribbean Mercy full time for 3 years. If you have any questions I'd be happy to help out. I also know of Doctors of the world and Serving in Missions (SIM). I can not think of any others off the top of my head though. I'll be back in Haiti this summer but it will there not be any medical work on this trip, just a scouting trip for the most part. Wishing you the best DeeDee

I actually meant the mission of the nurse profession. I probably mis-communicated the subject

Almost every church I have attended has a missionary team. So, I think you should look into a church that you may be a bit familiar with. Good luck and God bless you.

There are plenty of "underdeveloped" areas right here in our own country where you will find people without resources, family, support systems, health care, education, food, heat, plumbing, or even hope in need of mission assistance.
