Mass General new grad residency--question

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi guys,

I am a newly licensed RN-BSN. I have lucked out with my job search and have just accepted a job at a short-term rehab facility that is close to perfect for me; full-time, benefits, all 7-3 shifts, and with a population that is appealing to me. Shortly after accepting this job offer, I got a call to interview for the 10-month new grad training program at MGH. Obviously it's a no brainer that MGH would be the better option to take here (if it is offered to me), my only problem is with the pay, which is $12.38/hr for a full time position. Have any of you gone through/know anyone who has gone through one of the MGH nurse residency programs that can speak to the experience that it gives you? I am just trying to figure out which would be the best option here, and if it would be worth it to leave this job and salary, especially with my student loan payments coming up. I know I haven't gotten an offer, or even interviewed with them yet, but I just want to prepare so I can have a plan if the situation were to occur. Any info you know about their new grad programs will be a huge help!

12/hr for 10 months !!!! I would pass, work full year at current job, get real life experience/pay and be more marketable after a year

Here's an older thread about the MGH new grad ICU residency -- you may want to take a look, if you haven't already.

Best wishes!
