Hi everyone!
I have just gotten off the phone with my best friend who lives in Austria.
About a month ago, she discovered a lump in her breast. She recently met with her gynaecologist, who found yet another, larger lump.
He said she probably had nothing to worry about, and that it was most likely due to her hormones playing up as she has recently changed brands of contraceptive pill. He said she should come back if she noticed anymore growth or tenderness.
I feel she should have a mammogram. Now.
What do you guys think? I would appreciate any advice/input on this. I'm worried about her.
Many thanks,
Sash
If it is possible she should go to a breast center, not just the xray department of the hospital. The center I use has radiologists that ONLY read mammograms plus a computer that also independently reads them. They look at the film right away and you get the US right then. If needed they do the biopsy right then. I don't think I'd ever go anywhere else.

This is the one I use, Dr Cupples is fantastic, but there are breast imaging centers everywhere.
I began finding lumps in my breasts when I was 15 years old. I have a family history of fibrocystic breast disease, so I wasn't worried. They tend to come and go from month to month. That was until I had a reduction mamoplasty and haven't found any since, and either did the pathologist during the examination. If I didn't have a family history of this then I would have freaked out, and had it checked out my more than my family physician.

yes please tell her to get a mammogram. One of my closest friends died last year of breast cancer at age 38 due to initial misdiagnosis by first doctor.
