Legalized Marijuana on your Unit?

I am curious if anyone has encountered any legalized marijuana on your unit? Vapes, edibles, whatever else people use now. Do you have any policies on it? Interesting stories? I am surprised I have not run into it yet. I hear it might interfere with Keppra but honestly do not know about interactions.

How about in SNF or LTAC or other long term care where patients remain a long time?

I haven't personally encountered it, but at my job hospice and home health clients use medical marijuana. Hospice clients use edibles, home health clients prefer tinctures.

I'm sure there won't be smoking types (vapes) allowed. As for edibles, I'd assume that any medications would have to be approved/checked by pharmacy, otherwise we'd be letting people take their home medications, which isn't allowed. One of my units used marinol (a derivative) as an appetite enhancer. It was a geriatrics unit (but hospital stocked it, so likely used on other units),

Our hospital has written a policy saying they are committed to allowing marijuana, if the patient takes it at home. However, they don't provide it, except in pill form, and they have a nonsmoking policy. Family would have to bring it in edibles, I suppose.

I think it's safe to assume many patients are using edibles.

I don't think a hospital bed is getting between a committed user and his edibles.
