My husband and I moved to Austin 6 months ago. I'm an RN with 9 yrs. exp. in mother/baby and have not been able to find a job. I told recruiters I would pretty much work in any area and any shift. Nothing. We are thinking of moving to Phoenix. I worked in Phoenix in 2006 and didn't have problems finding a job. Have thing changed? I'm not in a position to wait another 6 months. Also, does anybody now what cities are still hiring?

Strange. I live in San Antonio and applied in Austin,St Davids. Got a call back in a day and an offer the same day. Mother/baby might not be where it's at though. I'm in OR. Offer had lower wage than what I make currently so I turned it down.

There are not a lot of job opportunities in the Phoenix area. I wouldn't move here without a job, that's for sure.

The job market in Phx has totally changed.

Is just shocking how different things are now. In 2006 it was just great. Az is hit just like other places.

But, you know, there are jobs. In the past you could just pick your area and shift not so today, but there are jobs.

I love Arizona so I adjust. Sunshine, blue skies--------

This is how bad it is in AZ: my neighbor moved back here and tried to get a job after being away for about 5 years. She assumed it would be like how it was before - recruiters wooing her. She has over ten years of acute care experience. She finally ended up with an LTC job -- not what she wanted.

I've lived in Austin for the last 4 years and recruitment here is beyond incompetent. They will ignore you and "lose" your application. It basically took me going to a unit in my scrubs, resume in hand, and saying to the manager "here I am, I'm ready to work today."

Don't give up. The Seton network pays more than St. Davids (at least to me it does) and don't forget Scott & White up in Round Rock. All About Staffing (the st davids agency staffing pool) will basically hire anyone. Premiere Staffing (the seton agency pool) blew off my online app, my voice mail, my email, and my hand delivered resume (the hiring guy wasn't in the office or I would have insisted on talking to him.) If I worked as poorly as recruitment does I'd get fired in about two days but for some reason they seem to get away with it.

You have my sympathy. Looking for a job is demeaning at times and espcially when you are treated like dirt by the recruiters.

I'm in Phoenix. I haven't looked into getting a job, but I keep orienting new employees where I am. I think there are jobs here, but you can't be as picky as we used to be. On a positive note, the housing market took a huge dump and it is a buyers market.
