I am one year on my full time job 3 12's. I recently got hired on an ideal part time job (they dont have FT) 2 8's in my dream unit in my dream hospital, sounds great right? I really am thankful the only thing that's holding me back is the scheduling since in both hospitals there is no fixed one. And I've a couple conflicts already, I've swapped and sorta talked to my old manager but I'm scared for the future I don't it to get to the point where I call in. I need both jobs there are a lot of expenses for everybody I care about I dont spend more than what is needed.

For those of you who experienced this second job pains, how did you handle it? Does it get better? Should I resign with my full time and just get another part time? Or shoud I resign on the part time and just get per diem elsewhere then wait it out until my dream hospital has a FT position then I can resign to my old FT position too. Aahh I dont know I dotn want to resign. What would you do if you were in this situation

If money means more keep the full time job and resign from the parttime. If happiness means more ( being on your dream unit) quit the full time job and look for another parttime or perdiem that works with your schedule.

Decide which of the two jobs--if you had to choose one--that you'd like to keep. That job should be your priority as far as scheduling goes...any other jobs you work have to fit around it.

This means you will have to make a decision as to what matters to you...and only you can make that decision. We can't make it for you.

I gathered that you work FT, but got a job offer PT in your dream hospital, but can't accept it because you need a FT job? If you need a FT job with benefits, then you really don't have a choice but to keep your FT job. What is it about the schedule that doesn't work? You said both jobs have scheduling issues?

If you really want the PT position in your dream hospital, then you need to talk with the manager and see if there is anyway you can be FT there. Explain that you can't afford to be PT or whatever your situation is (not exactly sure), and see what the manager has to say. Explain that you really want that position, and can't wait to work there, etc. Best of luck.

Can you try PRN at your dream job first, to decide if you like it, and maybe then maybe become partime at both places? But always look for benefits :)!
