How to become a registered nurse in California??

Nurses General Nursing

Hi There,

I am IHSS worker. I love taking care, helping out and being there for others. I have been thinking about becoming a registered nurse and also want to go back to school for nursing. I already have my bachelor's degree in History. I have not taken my prerequisites classes, nor done the requirements needed for the nursing program. I wanted to know what are the best options out there for me to become a registered nurse in California? What are the requirements? Also are there any legit programs online to become a registered nurse and also get my bsn in California?

Thank you.

Some of the classes might be online but the clinicals will be at least 24 hours a week onsite. I would start by making a list of nursing schools in your area and writing down the prerequisites for each. Some have more than others. Then I would sign up for some classes at a local community college. Check out National University. You can take some prereqs there but it's expensive and you're not guaranteed to get into their program. Most of them are highly competitive so you need A's, maybe a few B's. Good luck to you! It can be done but it's difficult and tiresome lol.

Start by looking at a few nursing programs in your area to see what the prerequisite classes and other requirements are. Be aware that many programs are competitive and you may have to far exceed the minimums to earn a spot.

An online program for initial licensure is not possible. At the very least, you'll have many hours of clinical rotations to complete. Some prerequisites may be able to be taken online, though.
