How can I help??

Nurses General Nursing

I am an ER volunteer, beginning my LPN program in July. I have finished my pre-reqs and have been in the MA program, so have some med. background. I consider myself pretty able, but of course not being licensed, can't do everything. How do I make sure that the nurses I work with know this and I'm not just there to be in the way? Most are really great, letting me observe procedures and asking for my help, but I know that some just consider me a nuisance.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I guess just keep offering to help, and keep asking to observe.

I work in a large level one trauma center and our volunteers help with transporting patients, bringing them water and answering lights.

do you have a job description outlining your duties? Are volunteers allowed to do direct patient care? (seems like a liability to me). Does your ID badge indicate your status? If asked to do something beyond your scope you just need to reply "sorry, I would be glad to assist but I am not qualified to do that". Nurses understand that.
