i'm hoping to apply for accelerated RN programs but i'm not sure about the following questions. I've asked at some schools, but i have a hard time getting any responses. I hope you can help! thanks and if there is a better forum elsewhere can you post that link? thanks

questions:

1.) Is there a statute of limitations on when you got your B.A. ( or MS additionally in my case)? In other words, if you took classes or got your degree 7-10 years ago would that be too long ago to count as a prerequisite?

2.) Can courses taken on line (i.e. human physiology, nutrition) at a credible institution (i.e. UC Berkeley extension) be used for prerequisites?

3.) Are the listed prerequisite courses required ones or merely suggestions of acceptable course titles? For example, would a student be required to take a Texas history course or merely some history course that was more specific than US history?

4.) Is it possible to have an admissions officer/counsellor look over a potential student's transcript to see what courses could be used for fulfilling prerequisites?

Some classes there is, at least around where I am. For example, some biology and Chem courses have to be taken within 5 years. There may be a way around it if you have worked in these fields. I think you can file something to try to get out of taking it again.

2.) Can courses taken on line (i.e. human physiology, nutrition) at a credible institution (i.e. UC Berkeley extension) be used for prerequisites?

It all depends what your school accepts. The best way to find out if have a counselor look at your transcript. Many classes require a lab (A&P, bio, etc) so you have to be in a class in person to do lab time.

3.) Are the listed prerequisite courses required ones or merely suggestions of acceptable course titles? For example, would a student be required to take a Texas history course or merely some history course that was more specific than US history?

Again, have to check with your school.

4.) Is it possible to have an admissions officer/counsellor look over a potential student's transcript to see what courses could be used for fulfilling prerequisites?

This is their job, so that is what you should do, get an appointment with a counselor in the nursing dept.

They should take everything except some of the pre-reqs (that you may not even have) like Anatomy/Physiology and Micro which they usually want within 5 years

2.) Can courses taken on line (i.e. human physiology, nutrition) at a credible institution (i.e. UC Berkeley extension) be used for prerequisites?

I would think yes but would check to make sure because each school will have something just a little different

3.) Are the listed prerequisite courses required ones or merely suggestions of acceptable course titles? For example, would a student be required to take a Texas history course or merely some history course that was more specific than US history?

I think in most cases for example if you have a General Humanities class that the college recognizes it will transfer but again check with the school.

4.) Is it possible to have an admissions officer/counsellor look over a potential student's transcript to see what courses could be used for fulfilling prerequisites?

Yup! Good luck with a degree already you should be able to get in and done quickly. Jules

Edit: sorry I didn't do this quite correct with the quote feature :)

The accepitability and transferablility depend on the particular requirements of the school to which you appply. It is entirely up to the school what they will and will not accept. No one will give you a straight answer without examining your actual transcripts. So submit your transcripts to the school to which your are interested.

thanks a lot guys! i've been trying to get answers from a bunch of different schools, but i'm finding it hard to connect with anyone (people are always gone or busy). i really appreciate the replies.
