GPA for acceptance????

Would be hard for anyone here to respond to that question for many reasons.

First you did not provide your chosen program's entry requirements including GPA. Without knowning the polices and proceedures for applying only the most general advice can be given.

In general the number applicants and their strengths will determine one's chances of geting in.

For instance if a school requires a minimum pre-nursing sequence GPA of 2.5 and has 100 opening slots for the incoming class. If there are 150 applicants with 125 of them having GPA's >3.0 then those that number stand next to no chance of being admitted. OTHO if only fifty students apply then it does not matter because the number students does not exceed open slots. This of course applies to programs where GPA is the sole determining factor as far as academics is concerned for admission.

Many programs now use a formula of pre-nursing GPA and TEAS or NLN scores to determine admission. Each portion is given a certain percentage weight with perhaps an essay and or interview included in the mix as well.

As for your dropping and retaking Chem, again it will depend upon how the program you are applying to treats classes failed and or repeated. If you withdrew early enough in the semester for the classes not to count/affect your GPA then things *might* be fine. These are all questions that should be directed to the admissions department of whatever program you are planning to attend.

Since I don't know the school's requirement it's hard to say. I was accepted into my ADN program with a 3.2, but my school uses the TEAS as well. After this semester I brought it up to a 3.6. Most of the schools I have researched don't want you to have anything less than a 3.0.

Thank you. I still have to take the TEAS test as well.

The main concern of mine is that I have read where some people with my gpa and lower have a hard time getting in. Granted I know they will be focusing most of the analysis on the core/science classes... just wanted to get your input on this and see how your gpa was towards getting accepted.

There are two programs I am looking at right now, one offered by TCC, and UTA. there is a huge price difference, which of course thats what you get when you go to a university and people tell me try not to worry so much about the price right now, and just make sure I study hard, get good grades, and actually LEARN what is meant to be learned. And once licensed I then can worry about paying off the loans.

My goal is to become either an FNP or ACNP. I really want to make sure I am doing the right thing and I am hoping that these 3 b's and 1 c does not kill my chance of getting accepted.

These nursing programs are highly competitive.

I don't think it will hurt your chances, but that's just my opinion. Like I said I just had a 3.2 and was accepted. I would feel comfortable with the 3.47. I had two C's and those were from A&P I and II. Those two classes really hurt my GPA since they were 4 credit hour classes.

I would work really hard to make an A in chemistry. A great study tool I used for both math and chemistry was the Kahn Academy videos on you tube. You should look them up. The Kahn Academy videos were also great in studying for the math and science portions of the TEAS test.

it would be in your best interest to ask those schools yourself to get the best answer. They should have orientation sessions for prenursing students where those questions come up.

schools vary on their requirements - mine only looked at TEAS (regardless of GPA), others will recalculate your GPA based only on their prereqs, some interview their top applicants, etc.

It would depend on your program's requirements. I don't think a 3.47 is likely to be rejected in most instances. This is nursing school, not med school. Of course, you still have to take your entrance exam......

I'm not sure about the rest of it but I'll tell you that I was suprised to find out at my school if you had to retake a course then you get less points for it even if you make an A, and if you have to retake it more than once then the most points you can get for it is the point they give for a C even if you make an A.
