Was wondering, I will be finishing up my ADN soon and plan on continuing to get my BSN. My goal is to get into a big hospital around me, Philly area, and work will still going for the BSN. Anyways I know a lot of the big hospitals want the BSN but have heard from some that they will hire you if you are in the process of getting your BSN.

Can anyone shed any light on this , whether it is true or not?

Your best bet probably is to contact the hospitals directly.

Posting on this forum may reach someone that knows the answer, rather then making calls all around town.

Most hospitals in the Philly, PA area are BSN preferred; meaning, most will interview and choose BSNs; however, there are exceptions.

Some of the smaller hospitals will hire ADNs; if you are an ADN that is currently in a BSN program, they may consider a candidate.

I work at a hospital where they hire BSNs and ADNs; tuition reimbursement doesn't start until one has been there for 1 year.

Your best bet is to contact the hospitals, apply, network if you can and sell yourself in order to find the best answer because there is no definite answer as to "BSN only" in the big hospitals; I'm sure there have been exceptions.

It really depends on the hospital. Many of the hospitals in my area will hire ADN, but only if you are enrolled in a bridge program or are willing to sign a contract agreeing to obtain a BSN within 5 years of your hire date. A lot of the hospitals will specify that in their posted job descriptions on their websites, but if not, then you can always call their HR department to find out.
