From call center to health care

  1. Hello I am 23 years and I have over 7 years of customer service experience and 5 of them are call centers. I just got a great opportunity working with Davita as a Pct I love the healthcare my goal is to become a surgical nurse or a nurse anesthetist . But I know I am going to need some kind of healthcare backround on my resume if I want to go higher. My plan is to work for Davita as a PCT and then move on to a hospital. Can anyone tell me if it's possible for me to use the same certification that I will earn with Davita and use that to apply to other dyalisis jobs like in hospitals. Also what is it like to work for Davita as a pct. I'm excited but a little bit nervous because I am so used to sitting behind a computer and on the phone all day but I know my legs will appreciate me more of I start walking around more. Since I am not physically active I know porbally my legs will suffer a lot of I end up working for Davita since I will have to be standing up and walking around all the time. So my questions are what's it like working for Davita , am I able to use the certification that I earned from Davita and use that to get a job in a hospital or somewhere else for more pay and the phsical demand specIlky for someone who has worked behind a desk for over 5 years.

You are going to need to go to nursing school if those are your goals.

I think you are talking about becoming a hemodialysis technician and you will have to take the certification after about a year. Once you are certified (CHT) you can work in chronic dialysis as a HD tech (under a nurse). There are only very few hospitals that use CHT in acute dialysis. Some larger hospitals with high numbers and acute dialysis room also employ CHT. But those CHT can only work in a HD room while a nurse is present, CHT can not dialyze pat in critical care or perform in room tx.

But first things first - you do not know yet if HD is really for you. You will figure that out once you are working. HD is not for everybody. Once you have gone through the training you will have to work and sit for the CHT. If it turns out that you love dialysis but want to work more acutes you should consider nursing school...

Good info from 2 PPs. Wishing you good luck, too. I suggest that you get good shoes and consider some support hosiery.
