As healthcare proffesionals, My nutrition class got me thinking as to how many of us follow or try to follow the new American food pyramid that came out last year. Not sure if this pyramid extends to other populations worldwide as I know Canada had its own pyramid until the present one.

Anyway she said this meal would bearing genetics etc would ward off most lifestyle diseases.

I sure know my daily intakes is a mile from this!

I know a big issue for me is getting my veggies and fruits as I have always not fancied their taste. I also come from a part of the world that has made love rice - by the way I got to have it at least once a day.

My fruits are almost always juices with no pulp. Big lover of ice-cream and the sweaties and fast food.

YY to your don't card much for fruits and veggies. I've been making smoothies with diverse fruits in it and adding honey and soybean powder, cottage cheese...goes down easy and I get dietary fiber and the benefits of three servings of fruit.

I really try to eat right, but I hardly pay attention to a food regiment like the food pyramid....I eat what my body craves!

I don't see vending machine food in any of the examples. Guess my diet is lacking!!!

I'm glad to hear Thin Mints are a food group - I was getting worried!!

I'm also hoping ativan, valium, and other "pams" become food groups. Imagine how healthy and happy we'd all be!! LOL.

Hmmmmmmmm........I don't eat much of ANYTHING anymore because I'm too dang busy, but one thing I do consume a lot of is preservatives, because at my age I need to preserve everything I can for as long as I can! :chuckle

A slice of pizza is *kinda* shaped like a pyramid....

Pat

about 90% there. Need to drink more water and I'm a vegetarian so i didn't have the turkey.

Breakfast: apple, cheese, crackers and peanut butter.

lunch: whole wheat pasta and sauce

dinner: dinner salad (romaine lettuce, pineapple, black beans, cheese, avocado olives cilantro, tomatoes mixed with olive oil and salsa) w/ 2 pieces of whole grain bread dry.

I waitress while going through school and believe me people eat crap. Most people don't even know what healthy eating is. Sorry, sweet potato fries are not the healthy alternative to regular fries. Both are bathed in grease. But i keep my mouth shut cuz i like big tips....its like being a drug dealer. I know feeding them that is wrong but they want it and hey i gotta make a living. The kids menu is laughable. Pizza, fried chicken, mac and cheese. The food potions...gez. half of the people can't fit in the booths or sit in them uncomfortably (belly's pressing into the tables) I'm totally killing my customers.

Its pretty common not to follow the pyramid. I maybe wait on one or two healthy eaters a week. When people see me eat they ask me why I'm on a diet. I guess you have to be on a diet to eat healthy.

Just did my 3 day food analysis and basically I'm all stuffed with empty calories!

Kcalories - 3601

total fat - 110g , RDA 56-98g

Omega-3 Linolenic - 9%

Discretionary - 139%

meats & beans - 186%

This is the trend thru out the 16 analysis print out.

I'm going 2 start by being 'unfriendly' to vending machines and fastfood eatries.

My taste buds just do not get along with veggies and fruits. Guess I got to do something somehow about that!
