In hospital: Nope. That's what the ER is for! Just CPR for every single employee..no matter if you have direct patient care or not.

I curious why an RN would need to be first aid certified? I would think their advanced training would make first aid certification overkill.

My employer requires that all employees (including Nurses) have American Red Cross First aid and CPR.

So I think it is just an employers preference.

Unquestionably, this may vary with each facility, some will require just CPR even if the staff member is not in direct contact with patients, and others will require for all medical personnel to have CPR and for those in specialty areas CPR & ACLS. Therefore, the first aid would be require on some remote isolated locations for example first aid in a cruise-liner, this criteria will depend solemnly on the facility.:redbeathe

Depends on what you mean by "first aid." Basic life support - absolutely. Every single person who works in our hospital requires BLS certification.
