Fibromyalgia Diagnosis too quick?

Hi All,

Just looking for some other ideas. My sister in law had gastric bypass surgery 5 years ago. Since July she has gained 30 pounds, and admits to having more stress and stressful eating during that time. Also during this time she started having non descript joint pain, mental sluggishness and fatigue. PMH of depression, lymes disease. So! she went to her pcp who has known her at least 10 years with these symptoms and was told she has fibromyalgia and given a script for flexeril. Lab work was done and she was told to see a rheumatologist.

I told her not to take the flexeril yet and to get a second opinion, especially once she has the lab values back. Is this the norm? It seems like she has symptoms of a lot of things. Has anyone else come across a fibromyalgia diagnosis this quick? Thanks for all ideas and opinions!

I agree, that is pretty quick for a diagnosis. I hope you will encourage her to follow up with a second opinion or see a rheumatologist.

I have fibro, took over a year of tests to come up with the dx, then I saw 2 more rheumys to be sure.

Please give her lots of support while she is figuring this out and especailly if that is the final dx.

is she perhaps B12 deficient? this can be a sequelae of that surgery..and can take quite awhile to show up,...as the stores are used up
