Fasting time needed for FBS and lipid profile .

Hi while I taken sample after 9 hr fasting for lipid profile, laboratory people rejected the sample. I argued it is 9-12 hr fasting. They are telling I need to complete 12 hr to do lipid profile. Which one is correct

It is 8 to 12 hours, and even this is probably unnecessary and excessive

So, if patient has blood drawn at 3 AM (as it does happen in acute care for so-called "morning labs" all the time), then no dinner the day before? Policy kissing detected :banghead:

The lab running the test is the best source of information. They know their own policies and requirements better than any of us do.

Thats what I said but lab people telling they are pretty sure about the 12 hr policy... They made a circular also for that. See the link.. 2
